A YEAR OF PAINFUL FLOOD DAMAGE DRAWS TO A CLOSE

The flood of pain does not go away.  I force myself to stand and walk as much as I can tolerate, but the year is coming to an end with little relief from the flood of suffering I deal with every day of my life.  I hope the physician whose careless words resulted in this flood of pain might no longer be in practice, but I fear he might be -- albeit in a different place.    I am pretty sure he retired from Illinois Retina Associates in 2020.     https://www.facebook.com/IllinoisRetina/posts/happy-retirement-dr-flood-on-this-next-chapter-of-your-life-we-celebrate-and-con/3288637167857727/

Night Falls on 9/11/23

Today is September 11, 2023, and it is 10:30 p.m.

These days I'm observing my own personal 9/11 -- the destruction of my body - in part by aging, but amplified and accelerated by the piss-poor information purveyed by doctors who should have known a lot better -- one of whom gave me the flood of horribly misleading information that resulted in the painfully fractured broken vertebrae discussed elsewhere in this blog!

I did the best I could with dinner.  I think I was in the dining room and I'm pretty sure I ate by myself.   But maybe not.  Nor am I even 100% sure about any of this!   What an awful witness I'd be!

Which brings me to the movie this evening ---  My Cousin Vinnie.

It was a comedy about a lawyer defending teenagers in a murder case. It sounded pretty good but it was just too much sitting up and I wasn't up for it and left early on.  Maybe I should have stayed, but done is done!

For some reason I have in my head that Field of Dreams was here.  Maybe they showed a preview of it.  I've already forgotten.  But I loved this movie about the women on a baseball team.  I loved it when I saw it years ago and it was still good now. Geena Davis and Tom Hanks are terrific in this film!  But I don't know why it's in my head - maybe they showed a preview.  But even tonight's program clearly states that the main film was My Cousin Vinnie!

I wonder who will read my blogs when I'm gone?  So cool that I don't have to pay for them, so who knows who will run across them?

ONE MORE PAIN-DRIVEN VERSE!

A stinking piece of malodorous crud,

Is a doctor by name of Timothy Flood.

The first time we met, the first time he saw me,

He said “I don’t like lawyers; because they will sue me!”

Why did I not attend to these words,

And keep far away from that medical turd?

Instead I listened when — to my surprise —

He told me that Prolia was harming my eyes!

But he was the expert, so I missed a shot,

And three painful fractures is just what I got.

I’m in pain all the time from this careless pronouncement,

And that is the reason write this denouncement.

THE BARD SAID IT BEST!!!

As I live EVERY SINGLE DAY with the pain resulting from the careless, inaccurate comments of the retina specialist Dr. Deluge, I cannot help but think of Hamlet as he considered taking steps to end his own pain.  Thank you Poetry Foundation for making this available!

To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. To die—to sleep,
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to: 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep, perchance to dream—ay, there's the rub:
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause—there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
Th'oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of dispriz'd love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of th'unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovere'd country, from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience doth make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry
And lose the name of action.

FLOOD DAMAGE

Today is Thursday, August 26, 2023.

I'm still in pain every single day of my life because of the flood of abysmally ignorant and/or careless medical advice purveyed by a medical specialist and discussed in other parts of this blog.

I keep hoping that time will bring relief, and that eventually I might go for a nice walk in good weather without the distraction of the flood of pain from the vertebrae which were fractured when a retina doctor -- who surely must have known better -- told me my retinal condition was because I was "on Prolia," when the correct answer would have been (as I later learned to my sorrow)  that I had osteoporosis.

But this careless and inaccurate statement initiated a flood of events that have left me in pain and/or extreme discomfort for the past several years.

I'm back on Prolia now,  but while this may forestall future damage, unfortunately the painful fractures that have already occurred - -vertebral fractures that cannot be set and which will never heal properly -- are still part of my daily life.

My choices: remaining immobile which is unhealthy in general and especially unhealthy for bones, or getting up and getting around despite the pain.

Despite the flood of pain I live with each day I take the latter road as much as I can tolerate.

SO DAMNED SICK OF THE CONSTANT FLOOD OF PAIN!

I have some nice events coming up.  Our Law Ladies Lunch will be next week, for instance. But the pain never goes away.  And it puts a damper on so many events that should be enjoyable!

Besides the pain, I am never free of the sickening memory of how I actually believed that dumb-ass Dr. Timothy Flood who told me that the eye condition he was treating was because I was "on Prolia!"

That memory persists like a toad in the lemonade!

OK.  So Dr. Timothy Flood was a total dumb ass!

But why was I such a dumb ass to actually believe him?

I should have turned and run right out the door when he said he didn't want to treat me because I was a lawyer and I would sue him!

That was the first time we met!

I had NEVER had a doctor say that to me before!

I should have paid attention and gotten out of that stinking situation ASAP!

I guess it never occurred to me that a medical doctor could be so unbelievably dumb - and/or uncaring!

A LONG OVERDUE RETIREMENT!

Ding-Dong!  He won't be doing to others as he did to me!

Dr. Timothy Flood -- who could not manage to get that great big word "osteoporosis" out of his mouth, has finally retired. Thank goodness.

I am writing this in September, 2023, and so many activities of daily living are still quite painful.  I have to force myself to be active despite the pain!

I only wish his retirement would give him a taste of debacle his carelessness made out of mine!

Hopefully his careless, stupid language will not destroy anyone else!

Ding Dong he won't be doing to others as he did to me!!!

   Not a moment too soon!!

WHEN I SHOULD HAVE WALKED OUT THE DOOR

The first time I saw Dr. Timothy Flood he asked me what kind of work  I did.  I told him I was a lawyer.  His response was surprising.  He said he didn't want to treat me because I would sue him!

No doctor had ever said anything like that to me before.  He wanted me to sign something to the effect that I wouldn't sue him, which of course I declined.

But in retrospect, after the damage his careless words caused me, I now believe I should never have let him come near me!  Trying to reassure him that I wasn't interested in suing doctors was one of the stupidest things I ever did in my life.   Instead, I should have grabbed my coat and walked right out the door!

I do not live a day of my life free of the pain his careless words and actions have caused me.

Another Little Pain-Driven Verse

There was a fxxking axxhole whose name was Timothy Flood. Who never should have been touching event they eyes of a spud! I live each day with his "gift" to me -- relenless, unceasng pain! He walks away with the money while my future goes right down the drain! ###

A Short Verse

A word like “flood” can only spell doom, And a doc’s name like that can bring only gloom! For horrid mistakes there can never be room, So his mouth should be sealed like the doors to a tomb! ###

ABOUT THE REPETITION

I apologize for the repetition in this blog!  I sometimes add posts when I am sad or in pain just to let off steam.   I doubt many others read this blog.   But if you are a visitor here, this may explain why there is so much repetition.

Maybe someday I'll sort it out and straighten it up, but for now, it is what it is.  A place for me to deal with the sadness and anger I am experiencing at the loss of pleasant retirement years due to the painful damage resulting from the unbelievably irresponsible words that fell like a toxic flood from the from the mouth of a hyper-educated medical specialist who should have known better!

Today is Tuesday, August 8, 2023 -- a lovely summer day in Chicago.  I now live in the senior apartment building where I moved not long ago, and today I might be enjoying long walks in the sunshine.

But while I do the best I can to get out and get moving, it is always with discomfort and even pain caused by the totally unnecessary iatrogenic (doctor-related) vertebral fractures discussed in this blog.

MORE ABOUT THIS BLOG --WITH MORE REPETITION

Through this blog -- an unfolding account -- I share what happens when a trusted doctor gives a patient inaccurate or misleading information.

In this case, it was an eye specialist -- a retinal specialist actually -- who flooded me with totally erroneous information about why I had an eye condition called "macular degeneration."

When I asked this specialist why I had this eye condition, his answer was: "Because you are on Prolia!!"   This is the drug I was prescribed for osteoporosis, to be injected by a bone specialist every six months.

Believing what this eye specialist (erroneously) told me, I tried to get off Prolia by delaying the appointment for my next shot.  I thought I could perhaps "wean" myself off this drug without consequences.    Bad idea!  The result of my effort to save my eyes by getting off Prolia was several vertebral fractures that have left me with a flood of pain and disability to this day!

Only later did I learn that the osteoporosis drug Prolia had nothing to do with the eye condition.  It was the osteoporosis itself that was the link!

But the dangerously inaccurate and definitely misleading information purveyed by a respected retinal specialist  -- who should have known better -- was a major factor in destroying any hopes I might ever have had for the enjoyable retirement activities I so looked forward to during my working years.

As of this date, late in 2022, I have been living for over four years with the life-altering pain and disability resulting from that inaccurate information purveyed by a retinal specialist who should have known a lot better!

Prolia (the registered trademark name for the drug denosumab, manufactured by Amgen, Inc. and wrongly cited by the doctor here as being responsible for my eye condition), is a monoclonal antibody administered by injection every six months for the treatment of osteoporosis.

There is strong evidence to suggest that even short delays in this six month schedule may result in fractures such as I experienced.

I had read the warnings about "not stopping Prolia without consulting a physician," and I had been on Prolia for years with no intention of stopping.

But it was the flood of erroneous information given to me by that retinal specialist about my eye condition that caused me to stop Prolia, leading to the painful fractures described herein.

This could have been entirely avoided!  Instead of saying that the eye condition in question was because you are on Prolia,  the doctor could simply have said because you have osteoporosis.

This was essentially the opinion of every medical expert I consulted on the subject.

I share this in hopes that it may spare others unnecessary pain!

Please note that this blog is a work in progress.  I will continue to add to it and also make revisions mostly for the sake of currency, brevity and clarity.

This blog is therapeutic for me.  It helps to get the poison of my anger out of my system, especially at the medical "expert" whose flood of spectacularly inaccurate words created such painful and permanent damage to the only body I will ever be given on this earth!   I also hope it will warn others!   However, I apologize for the length and repetitiveness of many of the posts.

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Here, in this rather large nutshell, is how in just a few days I changed from an active 80 something going on 60, to a semi-invalid who feels like she is going on 120!

This totally unnecessary iatrogenic disaster might have been avoided by a few well placed words of warning.  More prominent warnings by  Amgen, Inc., the manufacturer of Proliamight have saved me, and perhaps many others with similar eye conditions from a flood of pain and disability.

I would like to see more easily obtainable, reliable information consumers about eye disorders that may be linked to osteoporosis.

The posts in this blog are mostly in reverse chronological order,  newest first (this introduction excepted).  They include my account of the effects of this totally avoidable situation that basically destroyed what I have every reason to believe would otherwise have been an active and reasonably pain free old age!

Here, for convenience, are links to a few more of the early posts about events setting the stage for the subsequent years of pain and disability.

and:
http://www.joansbackbonedisaster.com/2018/07/seduced-and-abandoned_5.html

But more than anything -- a modicum of common sense by a specialist eye doctor who surely knew better than what he told me -- could have spared me the flood of immeasurable pain and the physical loss, as well as any chance of enjoying activities I had planned for my retirement years.

BECAUSE YOU ARE ON PROLIA REVISITED

I am still trying to figure out why the retina specialist whom here I will call Dr. Deluge answered my question about why I had macular degeneration by saying "Because you are on Prolia."

As discussed elsewhere this caused me to believe I had to choose between my bones or my eyes, and I live each day with the flood of pain of resulting when I acted on that belief!

Could he have meant "because you have osteoporosis?"

If so, why didn't he say that. to allow my life to go on as normal?

The thoracic and lumbar fractures I now live with will always create problems for me.  And my body will always be deformed and likely a lot weaker.

But at least I can protect myself from more damage and still get my eyes taken care of and Prolia shots as well!

My last Prolia shot was on May11, 2023 at Northwestern.

The next Prolia shot will be on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 8:30 a.m. at Northwestern with Dr. Hahr.   (676 St. Clair, Room 14-100).

My next Retina date is on August 29, 2023 with Dr. Godspeak.

I hope he will make these issues clear to his patients -- which Dr. Deluge so carelessly and/or thoughtlessly and/or deliberately and/or disastrously failed to do!

HOW EMILY DICKINSON MIGHT RELATE THIS!

HOW EMILY DICKINSON MIGHT RELATE THIS!

When lawyers screw up they may be disbarred.

Comprehending this fact should not be so hard!

Clients will pay and give trust unalloyed.

Never expecting that they’ll be destroyed!

Per contra:

When when docs’ words leave patients in tatters,

They just go right on as if nothing else matters!

So I drowned in floods of horrendous advice,

From a careless physician, at least once or twice!

jdl 2022

*My reaction to being carelessly told by a retina doctor that my eye condition — macular degeneration — was because I was on Prolia, causing me, fearing for my eyesight, to skip a Prolia shot, resulting in three painful vertebral fractures!!!

In fact, as I learned too late from what turned out to be a more reliable authority, the eye condition was related to osteoporosis and not to Prolia!

Adding this in January, 2023:

When you're dumb as a sack full of hammers,

You should only treat eyes from a spud,

But, pardon my verbal bad manners,

That rule washed away in a flood!

What more can I say of these matters?

I really was plain out of luck!

That doc left my body in tatters!

No question, he was one dumb f---!
