WHY THIS BLOG?

Why do I Write this Blog?

I originally started this blog -- which includes matters pertaining to my vertebral fractures, as well as my eyes -- to answer friends who saw me after this happened and asked:

"Joan!  What in the hell happened to you?"
(or words to that effect.)

When they learn that the painful and disfiguring vertebral compression fractures I live with today resulted from the flood of misleading words of an eye specialist -- a retinal specialist, if you will -- who erroneously told me that my eye condition was because I was on the osteoporosis drug Prolia, they gasp in disbelief!

There may be a connection between osteoporosis and age related macular degeneration, but the specialists I consulted following this disaster agreed that stopping treatment for the former condition does not affect the latter.

Unfortunately, I learned all of this after three vertebrae fractured, leaving me to this day with a flood of pain and disability!

PLEASE NOTE!  I am NOT a medical professional and nothing here is to be construed as medical advice.  But if you or friends or family are dealing with osteoporosis and/or macular degeneration, you might find my experience of interest so feel free to share.

I do a little reorganizing and updating of this blog from time to time.  I hope you will find helpful information here, and I thank you for visiting www.JoansBackboneDisaster.com !!

BRAINLESS TIM FLOOD

When Tim Flood was born,

The shocked doctors said:

“There’s no trace of a brain

In your wee baby’s head!”

But Tim Flood’s rich daddy

Was nobody’s fool!

Handsome bribes brought his baby,

To Medical School!

And there he flunked classes,

But Dad paid the right folk,

So he got that degree,

A pitiful joke!

And once in his practice,

He kept on misspeaking,

Leaving his patents,

Breaking and creaking!

And now he’s retired,

And soon will be dead.

But his sadly harmed patients,

Will suffer instead!

HOW MUCH BRIBERY NEEDED FOR TIMOTHY FLOOD'S MEDICAL DEGREE?

 HOW MUCH MONEY DID TIMOTHY FLOOD'S MOMMY AND DADDY HAVE TO PAY SO THEIR LITTLE BABY BORN WITHOUT A BRAIN COULD HAVE A MEDICAL DEGREE?

TIMOTHY FLOOD -- YOU SHOUD PARDON THE EXPRESSION, M.D.-- WAS THE BRAINLESS JERK WHO TOLD ME MY EYE CONDITION WAS BECAUSE I WAS ON PROLIA (THE OSTEOPOROSIS DRUG).

AS A RESULT, I THOUGHT MY EYE CONDITION (AGE RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION) WAS BECAUSE OF PROLIA -- AND I SKIPPED A PROLIA SHOT -- LEADING TO MULTIPLE VERTEBRAL FRACTURES THAT GIVE ME PROBLEMS TO THIS DAY!

AS I LEARNED LATER,  FROM A PHYSICIAN WHO WAS NOT A BRAINLESS IDIOT,  THIS EYE CONDITION SEEMS TO AFFECT PEOPLE WITH OSTEOPOROSIS, WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE ON PROLIA.

SO NOW I GET THAT PROLIA SHOT EVERY SIX MONTHS, BUT THE PAIN OF THOSE UNNECESSARY FRACTURES NEVER GOES AWAY!   ###

AN ODE TO. TIMOTHY FLOOD who incorrectly told me my eye condition was because I was "on Prolia"

There once was a fellow named Timothy Flood

Where most folks have a brain he had only a spud!

When I asked why I needed those shots in my eye —

Because you’re on Prolia” was his reply!

I knew if I missed that next Prolia shot,

Backbones would break!  But what choice had I got?

Did I want to be lame?  Or rather be blind —

Making this choice was plaguing my mind.

But I feared for my eyes, so I skipped that bone shot.

Three vertebrae broke, and the worst pain I got!

Now that dummy is gone and I DON’T wish him well,

I hope he’ll soon be with the Devil in Hell!

Go to his website, and here’s what you’ll see.

He loves to have fun!  Well he had fun with me!

Like I’m stabbed I the back with a horrible knife,

And I’ll live with that pain for the rest of my life.

                      The Smiling Face of Ignorance

P.S. As I learned later,  from a physician who knew the correct answer, Prolia was NOT the problem.  My age related macular degeneration was because I had osteoporosis -- which I would have whether or not I were on Prolia!

Up until then, I had great respect for physicians.                   But  I still live with the pain of those unnecessarily fractured vertebrae (caused by the Prolia shot I skipped) that remind me every day that a medical degree does not necessarily mean someone knows what they are talking about!  ###

MORE ABOUT TIMOTHY FLOOD

I am writing this on Tuesday January 14, 2025.

The pain is pretty bad today.

And I am still dealing with the pain and the anger resulting from the stupidity of this ignoramus!

                                 Timothy Flood, MD, FACS – Emeritus

Decades after the events below occurred I am still in pain, or at least annoying and extreme discomfort whenever I am upright, because of this careless, smiling ignoramus!

 Timothy Flood (and I cannot believe he was an M.D.--  I thought you had to be smart just to get into medical school ) -- was the ignoramus whom I trusted when he told me that my retina condition that he was treating was because I was "on Prolia."

It seems that he could just not get that great big medical word "osteoporosis"out of that smiling mouth!

The Smiling Face of Dangerous Ignorance!!!

That left me trying to decide whether I preferred to be blind (if I didn't let him treat me) or lame, if I neglected or even delayed a Prolia shot.

Catch these words at his bio, below:

I guess he was just having a bit of fun leaving me with a lifetime of pain!!!

THE SMILING FACE OF DANGEROUS IGNORANCE OR CARELESSNESS -- AND DOES IT MATTER WHICH?

Such a happy smile on the face of a "respected" doctor, whose ignorance -- or carelessness -- (does it matter which?) left me in pain that will probably last for the rest of my life!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This now retired retina doctor told me that my eye condition (macular degeneration) was because I was "on Prolia" the osteoporosis drug.
Based on this, I skipped a Prolia shot and suffered multiple painful vertebral fractures.
His replacement (when he retired) as well as a physician friend with a related specialty, assured me that Prolia had NOTHING to do my retina condition.  Rather, I was assured, people with osteoporosis tend to be more likely to develop the eye condition (macular degeneration).
But I only got this 911 when it was too late -- the damage from these careless words from the "respected" retina doctor had already been done.
I live with the discomfort and lack of mobility from these multiple vertebral fractures every day of my life!
